skinny river snaked away from the lake
and it stumbled over falls downtown
to the valley where the vultures feed
i gathered fury as i struggled through the carrion
burying my days along the bank accounts
that don't belong to me
this is not the water that my father had in mind
pushing his back against the pressing of time
as i slipped away down stream
it doesn't matter who i cost whatever hell
when i finally remember to come home
some ten / twenty years too late…
it was innocent at first
searching for a cure against a curse
but i have become something other
a wander on the moonlit water / lonesome delta
digging into to dirt to be more than a memory--
coming undone under the thunder …
